All you wanted to know about Alternativa3D licencing
06.11.2008 Alexander KarpovichWe’re getting a lot of questions concerning Alternativa3D licencing, so here are some answers about pricing and conditions.
Basic, standart licence costs 1000 Euro and is made for using current Alternativa3D release in one commercial project, not depending on Flash modules quantity.
Such projects are company websites, promo-sites and presentations using the engine in:
- navigation and decoration elements;
- display goods, services and processes;
- schemes and diagrams;
- tutorials;
- animation elements;
- architectural visualization;
- single-user games;
- 3D-banners, game banners.
We provide support for basic licencees at forum.alternativaplatform.com in a high priority order.
Individual licences
For multiuser (MMO) projects and online services there is an individual licence, which pricing and conditions depend on how deep do we have to go into the project (by consulting, adding specific features, providing extended support, etc.)
These are:
- online shops and services;
- multiuser games and media;
- visual chatrooms;
- geoinformation systems;
- 3D-editors and construction apps;
- complex calculation results and processes visualizations.
Big project means big risks, and demands technology confidence. In order to meet that requirements, we offer:
- early project stages consulting;
- teaching developer teams (remote, locally, at client’s office);
- changing engine in order to meet specific project requirements;
- individual support program;
Free non-commercial licence is available for non-commercial projects, such as:
- technology demonstrations, experiments, Alternativa3D tutorials;
- educational materials for schools and universities;
- projects that get money from donations or by using context ad networks.
Developers who use Alternativa3D for their clients can use it for their own websites for free too.
If you’re using Alternativa3D for free, it is nececcary to put our logo inside your project.
Questions and answers:
This is so expensive! Nobody can afford that, and there are opensource alternatives!
Yes, some people mention that it’s a way too expensive, but as long as we’re not open source project, we’re focusing on a premium segment which wants to get good stable service and support instead of saving money on a licence. 15 people are working full-time on that technology and we’re hiring :)
Do we have to pay for the licence even before we did something?
We recommend to test our engine before using it for commercial works. Get your free Alternativa3D version at our website. If you decide to move to commercial production, please contact us to get commercial licence right away.
We’d like to create a cool website, and you should be interested in giving it your licence for free, for some reasons. Will you?
Well, we can do that, if you have good reasons. Please contacts us to get into details.
What if my project was non-commercial, but now it turned to get profit?
If you’re interested in stable work and further project development, it’s a good time to become our customer. Please contact us to get commercial licence.
We’re developing our project at our own risk, and we’re not sure that it will get any profit later. What do we have to do in order to get the benefits of commercial partnership?
We’re open to solve specific problems, even including creating joint venture together. Call or write us to discuss the project.

are free flash games considered non-commercial if they use for instance mochiads or they require a standard license?

Right now they’re supposed to use free licence.

Is it necessary to insert the Alternativa logo in tutorials?

Yes, sure.

Nice, anyway i would advise you to hire some kind of english speaking editor. I know among programmers its not a tragedy you get a word or two wrong, but its getting funny. I mean “standart” is not a word, “appartaments” in previous post is also not a word, etc. I don’t mean this in a bad way just an advice.

>Developers who use Alternativa3D for their clients can use it for their own websites for free too
Does that mean as a developer, I can use Alternativa for free to develop projects for clients but have to buy a license on behalf of my clients in production use? Or do I have to buy a license to develop but my clients can use the result of my Alternativa projects for free?

Regarding the spelling/grammatical errors comment, if your company is interested in hiring a part-time proficient English copywriter, I have a contact I can get you in touch with. She is a native English speaker and had some Russian language classes (to what extent I am unsure). Shoot me an email at thinktankdev {at} gmail {dot} com and I will put you in touch with her.

What if your game is free of charge to everyone. However, you allow players to make to make donations that help support server costs. Combined with ads to help cover other costs. Would that still work under the free license, and at what point might this project have the need to upgrade to a commercial license.

I second that Jeff
