Alternativa3D 7

27.04.2010 Ivan Zykov

Alternativa3D v7 is available at the moment, terms of use are discussed in every certain case. The main criterion which influences the cost is the level of our involvement into the project. As practice proved, the engine has to be adjusted to the needs of each project (effects and picture vs performance, choice of certain features).

Update! Alternativa3D will be free for any use. Link to the pre-release version in comments.

For example, Alternativa3D 7 is successfully used in our project Tanki Online; the engine can also be used in projects with character animation.

If you decide to use Alternativa3D 7, send project description and short text about your team to management@alternativaplatform.com — we will contact you and discuss the scheme of cooperation. Collaboration in investment search is also possible.

Technical information about Alternativa3D version 7:

Comparing to the previous version:

  • Fully adapted to Flash Player 10
  • No signal system
  • Framely drawing of everything

  • Mouse events
  • Collectors and absence of memory leak
  • Polygons support
  • Sprites, animated sprites
  • Bones
  • LOD
  • Mipmapping
  • Reference system
  • Possibility to assign Alpha, BlendMode, ColorTransform, Filters to objects
  • Camera takes part in hierarchy
  • Availability of many cameras
  • System of continuous collision detection for camera controller
  • Physical simulation
  • Debug system
  • Generation of classes
  • Animation
  • Distance Fog

So, it seems you want to loose many possible customers from foreign countries. That’s very exciting since many of us started developing with 5.5, 5.6 and waited for v7 to be released to finish these projects.

We will find other ways realising these projects, maybe someone is already doing another powerful engine on his own - who knows :P
    Can’t be that difficult…

  2. Unreality Says:

    Daniel… we can use away3d

  3. Daniel Bunte Says:

umm, thanks…. but no! away3d is poor, slow and the code-structure is horrific. have you ever had a look at it? i need to have control over the engine’s core for my project.

btw: if this antispam asks for the sum of three + seven, why doesn’t accept it ten, but 10? hmpf

  4. Phil James Says:

Shame that they are doing things this way. I have a number of small projects that would really benefit from the update to the technology.

  5. David Says:

There’s also Yogurt, which seems to be much more powerful than Alternativa:

  6. Paolinos Says:

Is a shame to do this. now i´m test Flare3D and is amazing. Now my web site is making in alternativa, but i few days i will change a Flare3d.

  7. David Says:

Whoa, thanks Paolinos. Flare 3D has an amazing asset workflow, definitely my “weapon” of choice!

  8. David Says:

By the way, to the guys at Alternativa 3D: Terrible move, guys. Making Alternativa a closed AND commercial engine will soon bury it, due to the amazing competition set by people at Flare3D and Yogurt3D and even Copper Cube. Good luck with your product, you’ll need it.

  9. David Says:

Another great “alternative” to Alternativa 3D, for people with less Flash knowledge: http://www.ambiera.com/coppercube/index.html

  10. Extreme programmer Says:

i’ve tried some demo with flare3d and it’s not that good; alternativa’s demo are much more impressive.

  11. don Says:

Not nice move but understandable. Probably going to persuade my manager to go for alternativa. I’ll also have a look at coppercube before, looks promising.

  12. desconforme Says:

    regards
I come expecting much but long version 7 pairs Alternativa3D but never arrived, so they can continue with the project I’ll have to use another 3D engine as the 5.6 only served to make me demos.
It’s a shame expect more of this group.

to continue my project will need to use papervision no other

    Good luck to all

  13. Michael Iv Says:

Yeah , it is definitely wrong step . .Guys this is not Unity this is Flash , and there are many 3D flash engines out there to use .
Also I don’t understand : let’s say I do want to pay for your engine for a project but why do I have to share with you my project specifications , team and the rest of stuff ? You get the ,money and I get the Engine !
Wrong business model Guys , it is so wrong !

  14. J Says:

That’s what’s so sad about this.  I think these guys would have many willing customers to pay for their product, myself included, despite the premium.  But the idea that I have to let them know and have them involved with the details of my implementation takes it one step too far.  Especially when I see Yogurt 3D pushing 65,000 animated polygons across a screen.

  15. David Says:

And let’s not forget that this is just a GRAPHICS engine, and a pretty incomplete one, that they are treating as a game engine. You would have to invest much more money into development. It is much more interesting, and less expensive, to use other free alternatives out there and invest your money into better things.

  16. David Says:

This thing doesn’t even have a scene manager or a decent MAX/Maya exporter!

  17. Matt Bierner Says:

I have been following the developments of the engine for about a year now, even creating some nice demos with the free version, and have been extremely impressed with the progress that has been made. Many people have already mentioned other flash based engines however, I cannot help be feel that once WebGL gains more widespread support, which seems inevitable, there will be little reason to rely on a Flash based engine at all.

There is defiantly some great work going into this product, but I just cannot see a reliable market for it. What are the plans to stand out in the increasingly contested online graphics engine field?

  18. RR404 Says:

David, stop being so negative, Alternativa is a great engine and got the demos to prove it. If flash survives, Alternativa will lead the 3d engines for sure

  19. Anton Volkov Says:

    Good news!
Alternativa3D 7 will be free for any use.
    It’s coming soon on alternativaplatform.com.

    Pre-release version Alternativa3D 7.5 you can get here: http://downloads.alternativaplatform.com/Alternativa3D_7.5.0.zip

  20. David Says:

Kick ass, been waiting so long to see a free version of 7 can’t wait to give it a try!!

  21. Glidias Says:

Good to know it’s free for non-commercial use. And from Tanki, I sort of guessed and anticipated the new sorting modes options for each object right, average hierarchical grouped Z volumes (like in PV3d and most standard 3d engines) and precomputed or part-dynamic/conflict bsp /kd-tree ,etc as expected, with the possibility of just looking up the static trees when no live entities intersect the hierarchical bounding volumes (sphere/aabb/oob) of those trees (thus allowing for best-case optimized situations). Definitely miles better than the singular dynamic per-face BSP processor overhead imposed in version 5.
